It was an honour to attend the Artist Talk during the Opening Reception of Barbadian Folkways: they who sowed, an exhibition showcasing the seminal work of Barbadian photographer Ronnie Carrington.
This exhibition presents a selection of Carrington’s photographs from the 1970s and 1980s, offering a profound reflection on the visual and cultural heritage of Barbados. Through these images, Carrington provides an evocative lens into the landscapes and communities that have shaped Barbadian identity over the past six decades.
Marking his first solo exhibition in Canada, Carrington’s work reveals a deep sense of kinship and familiarity, grounded in the everyday experiences and environments that foster belonging.
Members of the Barbadian diaspora, as well as friends of Barbados, are cordially invited to visit the exhibition and engage with this compelling narrative of a formative period in Barbadian history.
