One must have a job offer from a Canadian employer prior to coming to Canada. The employer will apply to the Canadian immigration for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). This is a document that an employer in Canada may need to get before hiring a foreign worker. Foreign university/college students can also apply for a Post Graduate Work Visa upon successful completion of studies from a Canadian Government designated educational institution.
